Sensory Deprivation
What is therapeutic floating aka sensory deprivation? It's the perfect environment for you to unwind, let go of your stress, chronic pain, and improve your muscle recovery times. Our state of the art float-pod is filled with 10 inches of 93.5 degree Fahrenheit water and 1,000 pounds of pharmaceutical grade Epsom salts. This creates a zero gravity type effect on your body which allows you to relax and lets all of your joints decompress. The water isn't too hot or too cold---- it's skin temperature which means it's incredibly comfortable for the whole 60 minutes.
Floatation therapy is also called sensory deprivation. The term R.E.S.T better encompasses what we are trying to achieve – Reduced Environmental Stimulation Therapy. If you think of our modern day living, we are constantly being bombarded with stimulus from our phones, email, Facebook, stresses at work, kids, annoying co-workers… the list goes on and on. Taking an hour to relax and unplug in a float pod has been shown to help reduce stress, helps recovery from concussions, diminishes chronic pain, fibromyalgia, as well as aides in a better night’s sleep.

Before you float
Many people don’t know what to expect during their first float experience. What should I bring? What do you do? Below are a few tips and pointers to help ease your mind.
First of all, all you need to bring is yourself. We provide the shower, towels, shampoo, and conditioner- anything you could possibly think of. We recommend floating without a bathing suit to get the optimal benefits (no distractions of clothing touching your body). The door will be shut though, so if you do decide to wear your bathing suit, no one will know. Have a small meal or snack before your appointment but avoid caffeine for three or so hours before your float time. Don’t shave for 24 hours beforehand or the Epsom salts may irritate your skin. Please do not dye your hair 48 hours beforehand. If you wear contacts, you may want to remove them before you float. **If so, please bring a contact case and contact solution. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment so you can relax in the lobby for a few minutes and fill out our brief waiver.
Please note: We have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Should you need to cancel your appointment less than 24 hours prior to its start time, or if you miss the appointment, a fee of 50% of the full price of service will be charged to you. In case of emergency or an otherwise extenuating circumstance, the fee will not be charged.
If you have any other questions, please contact us via phone at 715-547-4040 or email us at UpNorthWC@gmail.com.

faq
Q: Do I need to bring anything to the float session?
A: Nope! Everything is provided and included in the cost of the float (except for contact cases and contact solution). We provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash, towels, hair dryer, Q-tips, as well as ear plugs.
Q: Is there an age requirement to float?
A: Anyone younger than 18 years old needs to have parental permission to float. We ask that the parent stay in the lobby for the duration of the first float. There is no maximum age. As long as you can comfortably get in and out of the float pod.
Q: Is there any risk of drowning?
A: The high buoyancy of the water makes it impossible for the individual to go beneath the surface. Floating is completely safe.
Q: I’m claustrophobic. How can I use the tank?
A: You can choose to float with the door of the pod open and with the interior light on--- this helps 99.5% of people who feel claustrophobic.
Q: How is hygiene maintained?
A: The high levels of Epsom salts makes any form of bacteria impossible to grow. The tank is also filtered before and after each float. Our float pods use UV treatment and is also O3/ozone infused to insure the cleanest float possible.
Q: Can I float if I’m pregnant?
A: Yes! Many Moms feel relief from pregnancy symptoms when they float. Some say they can hear their baby’s heartbeat. If you are pregnant, please consult with your OB-GYN or midwife before scheduling your appointment.
Q: Is there anyone who can’t float?
A: If you have a contagious skin condition, contagious respiratory condition, open wounds, incontinence, epilepsy, or are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you are not permitted to float.
Q: Can I float during my menstrual cycle?
A: Women can float during their menstrual cycle as long as they would feel comfortable in a swimming pool. We ask that if you're menstruating, you use an internal feminine product (tampon or menstrual cup) or wait until after your cycle has ended to schedule your float. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to give us a call.
Q: Can I float if I have dyed hair?
A: Please wait 48 hours after you dye your hair to float--- or until your hair no longer runs in the shower or stains a towel. This is to protect not only your hair but also the white interior of the pod. Floating decreases the life of keratin treatments and hair extensions (like swimming in the ocean). We cannot guarantee that your hair treatments will not have some sort of change during your float.
